CS5 in here at last

Got my hands on Adobe CS5 the other week and so far the working experience is good. Primarily using Dreamweaver and Fireworks for projects at the moment but the rest of the apps look promising.

As a Photoshop geek I was drawn to the improvements here especially the Content Aware delete. You'll still need some natural Photoshop skills to retouch the less clever areas after you've applied it but there's no doubt there's something clever going on under the bonnet.

I'll keep using the suite and post some more results soon.

Flash Catalyst

I've started playing about with a new beta application from Adobe called Flash Catalyst. You can get the beta 2 at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcatalyst/.

I've had my beady eye on it since it was first mooted under the name of Thermo a while back. It enables you to create Flash/Flex files without the need for ActionScript coding. Now as a designer things like that are very appealing and I've been using it for a while and it's looking very promising.

The best thing is that if you want to take it to another level you can using Flash Pro or Flash Builder. Take a look at the Design demo at the link above.

I'll get back with more feedback as I use it but it looks like it could be the answer to a lot of designers dreams for whizzy graphics with clean coding that you don't need to see whilst developing.

I've noticed a trend amongst bloggers that they always start off by apologising for not updating their blog recently. It's been a while but I'm not apologising.
I'd rather have something to talk about but I haven't. I'm just posting a few pics from recent walks.

A bit of talk about this week of a an August trip out to Whitby by the lads of the Waltons. Doesn't sound like it'll break the bank like a trip abroad would so it looks like it could be on the cards.

In the meantime here's a lovely picture of Whitby to whet your appetites.

Took a look at the Green power station in the Torrs on Sunday. Very clever but unfortunately it doesn't work when the river runs low. They should plug it in to the mains.

Wishing for faster client payments

It can be demoralising waiting for payments from clients. On one hand they're financing your day to day and paying for your mortgage and on the other hand they're infuriatingly slow with paying you!
Ah well, that's life in the freelance lane I guess. Onward on upward
